Yesterday I had to explain to some friends what omegaverse is, and then subsequently had to explain knotting. I don’t understand how people make to their 30s without knowing this?? I can’t remember ever not knowing it. I don’t even know when or why I learned it 😅
Apparently I am the outlier. I grew up in the country where it is more common to see animals mating out in the open. Almost all canines knot. Apparently some seals/pinnipeds do as well.
Just in case anyone is interested, a much larger variety of species (including insects) produce "mating plugs" where the male deposits a thick, gel like substance after evacuating which remains for a time keeping the sperm inside after they withdraw. Same reason, to increase the chance of fertilization.
If you really want to shock people, mention penile spines! They are much more common across many species. Some in conjunction with the plugs.
**BTW I am really not an animal pervert. A good friend that I went to college with is a vet, and I used to help quiz her before her exams. We had some really interesting conversations! Especially she did an internship at a Zoo. Absolutely fascinating.
I just reviewed Bride and was so surprised to see how many people were, just as you said, horrified by the concept of knotting. But I’ve been reading PNR since the 2010s so maybe I am jaded. Loved your recs here. I’d also add Deceived by the Gargoyles. I reviewed that one recently too and it was such a sweet read with 3 gargoyles, 1 woman, and yes, knotting.

I also cannot remember not knowing 😅😅😅

Wait, this is how I find out JLA has written knots?!!
Lmfao you should’ve seen my reaction when I read it. I COULD NOT believe my eyes 😅
Can I just read that one, or is it part of the series?
it's a duet but book 2 isn't out yet!
